As our site is pretty new and only just got keywords launched on the site it is going to take quite a while for google, msn etc etc to crawl through to my site. Any dieas how long it takes for a spider to hit the site? Is it worth me submitting the site to smaller search engines in a hope of being picked up earlier? Also, does using Adwords affect the level at which google will position you? i.e. if the site were listed higher then I would not use Adwords at all and rely on the free listing!!! No Income for Google!!!
AdWords will have no affect on your SERP. Write an article or do a PR about your site - backlinks for these places will help get the pages noticed and indexed.
Hi there, According to Cantufind.com's search you are already being picked up with a page rank of 3. We then checked Google for you and you are indeed in the holy grail. And your in MSN, and Yahoo! What more do ya want
Cantufind - just discovered your site. Nice tool. I have a question - many of the linked pages you have are from former crawls, and have since been updated in, for instance, MSN (although Yahoo still has the old info). Also, I have articles and blog feed going on all the time now, each generating backlinks. Can you tell me how the rank is arrived at? Thanks, Paul
LOL: That was a P*** take out of the big guns! You are right indeed that number one for every keyword might be the Holy Grail for some but for it will be hair regeneration! As for the question on how we reach our Ranking! Can't tell you trade secrets now can I., what I can tell you though is that you are indeed ranked at that, not only by us but by Google and others. There are anomolies in our scripts and as we are not a multi billion Corperation (Yet!) we will have some glitches including stale results. We flush our d/b cache once a month or so, when this happens you will see updates as with other engines. We accept that we are not near these guys in power but we are in relevancy which is important to us, as is the fact you won't get porn too easily on our results, in fact we try to give results that belittle the topic. Respect.
Hi Paul, pretty much in line with everyone else save for we don't like farms. We don't think people who don't have links pointing to competitors should suffer. We wouldn't promote other searches if it meant we were losing out! Good meta descriptions and tags are the ultimate key for us. If yours are good and match your site contents you are going to climb.
Minor search engine listings are NEVER useless my freind. But crikey I'd be peeved if I paid money to get listed on one though! If you submit to Cantufind.com for instance you are bound to get traffic at some point as all the majors crawl the smaller ones for their data. Not naming names but we know for a fact that majors find it a whole lot easier to send their spider to smaller search engines if the results they give are relevant and good. It saves the majors a lot of time and money so never give up on them. It is a bit of a mislead that the only traffic that you get is from lets say the big 3, they are the ones who present it but it is often the smaller directories and engines they get the results from. Remember, one hit from a small engine that makes a sale is better than a thousand from a major that never gets one sale!
Hi there UT, you are never going to get listed the way you are as I just looked at your source code and it was abysmal. Search Engines will never see you as a result and if Google does it will run straight past you like we almost did. Please put these in each of your pages and put in between the "" your keywords, description, etc.... <html> <head> <title></title> <meta name="KEYWORDS" content="This is where you put your keywords that you want people to use to find you" /> <meta name="DESCRIPTION" content="This is a description of your site and what it offers." /> <meta name="rights" content="yourname" /> <meta name="author" content="yourname" /> <meta name="revisit-after" content="7 days" /> <meta name="robots" content="index, follow" /> <meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="true" /> Once you have these installed in your header you will be amazed at how quick you will be picked up by the majors and minors. Don't forget to support safe searching and submit to us! The search engine that will tell you where you are going wrong....
Does that Mean that the Robot has to visit again after 7days? If i put this as <meta name="revisit-after" content="1 days" /> is it More Better? So that the Bot's Crawl Daily
What I have read is that the only utility to submitting to those smaller engines is to help your SERP and PR by having inbound links but I doubt that is true. It doesn't add up as Google and Yahoo know darned well that anyone can do that and I don't believe therefore that they ascribe any significance to those inbound links.
