Im looking to start a new site, If I have 4 different product ranges would I be best to either:

have four seperate sites under different domains

Have my site set into sections such as www.mydomain.com/range1 - /range2 etc

or have subdomains so www.range1.mydomain.com etc

Is there a best method for SEO or is it just a matter of personal preference?

www. range1.mydomain.com_ect As I'm more effective with seo. www. mydomain.com/range1 only the structure of a page.
www. range1.mydomain.com_ect vv be considered a sub-domain, accompanied by your primary domain.

There are better ideas please share.

don't go for sub domain as it is consider as new domain and will not have any benefit from core domain. Directory structure would helpful a lot to your business and website rankings

I would personally use subdomains as these will integrate well into the site structure. If you opt for subdomains you will be in effect managing different sites and I doubt this will be as effective. As mentioned before, subdomains are treated as different sites by the SERPs.

vision I am going over your mails and figuring out the best

In regards to that email you sent tbh the one with the WF thing in front of the planned name is the best SEO wise - but you also need the raw name as that will be your brand.

So saying one would be btter online whereas the other would be better for offline and things like stationary and van signs etc.

Sub domains hmm - treated as a seperate domain by the SE's

Let me get back to you more comprehensively over this weekend so you have the info you need by Monday please P.

mydomain.com/range1 is the best bcz you create sub domain so its effect on your popularity, PR and backlinks. bcz sub domain is not help in popularity, PR and backlinks bcz its not different domain to your domain but your create sub pages in 1 domain so it will be very helpful for you

    Subdomains are different domains/websites .

Creating 4 subdomains means you have to Seo 4 websites instead of 1.

    4x more work.

Thanks for the advice, it seems as though Id probably be best going for subfolders then so they are all under the same site?
