I have a site (mysite) hosted on a server, I am planning to move it to another server. Here is my plan of actions. Is it the best way:

    - Transfer all files to the new folder on the new server (leaving a copy on the old server).
    - Edit the DNS information and wait for things to update

Is that the best way to not lose rankings etc?

That's the best way to do it.

Make sure you set the TTL to very low to minimize downtime.

Well if you have a database, you should have some downtime to update your new database from the old one because you can't do it before since it might change until your new server is up.

using the datecentre's pipes to ssh the database over from one dc to the other will take no time at all, only disparity will be what is added to the old database during the dns propagation changeover, but seeing as it's only a couple of hours these days the loss is negligible. No downtime is necesarry at all for the website.
