I have recently (2nd October, 2012) opened a video sharing website that streams 40-50 mb videos. This is my server specification Intel Xeon E3-1230 8GB RAM 2x500GB HD 1 gbps Now both my site script and video files are located in the same server at the moment. I was getting very good traffic. 25k+ /days. Now the problem I am facing is that sometimes my site is loading really slowly. And it is even gibing error. This slowness sometimes lasts for 4-5 hours. I have checked my bandwidth from cpanel and it never went over 200 mbps ever so I can say my bandwidth was not over loaded to cause this slowness. so what is the reason for this slowness? Can anyone please tell me what is failing me? Is it the HD? RAM? or CPU?
Hello there, You would need to check the processes that are running when you are experiencing the slow down. Have you done any tuning at all to Apache or MySQL (assuming your site is using a MySQL back end)? Regards, Chris
This sounds like a Disk IO issue or It could be that your ISP/Datacenter is maxing out their bandwidth connection.
simply run a diagnose to know if it's a hardware failure or server configuration, most probably it would have to do something with server configuration
In your case, I would advise you to order CDN service additionally for your server. [h=2]A content delivery network (CDN) is a group of servers, located in different countries and connected to a single network. The system is configured in the following way: your site visitors are granted access to the site data copy from the server which is the nearest to them. With CDN your site pictures, text, files, audio and video streaming media will be loading quicker for the users from different places and the server load on the main server will be decreased.[/h][h=2]At the moment my CDN network contains 40 servers all over the world. Our network is developing day by day and the new CDN places are getting connected to it. If you wish , I can allow you to test it, just write a pm and I will be able to help you.[/h]
I don't think it is the issue with your server, rather I think you might need to work on On-Page optimization in order to reduce page loading time. Please visit the following website : http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ You might need to work on the following segment to optimize your page loading time: TOTAL_OBJECTS TOTAL_HTML TOTAL_IMAGES TOTAL_CSS - TOTAL_SIZE TOTAL_SCRIPT HTML_SIZE - IMAGES_SIZE SCRIPT_SIZE CSS_SIZE MULTIM_SIZE
