Site SERP | Issue with Possible Stop Words

    Hello,

I have been working on a website for a couple of years. It's my story of being a pharmaceutical/pharmacy whistleblower. My website has never ranked highly in Google, actually I don't believe it is even listed in Google. However, certain key combinations like "whistleblower story" gives me position 1 or 2. The site is PR4 and has 200+ pages of material and growing almost daily.

The actual topic is whistleblowing, but the words pharmacy / pharmacists / pharmaceutical come up many times.

Does Google penalize websites that use terms like pharmacy or pharmaceutical? I've heard that these two can be considered "stop words". If you think it is causing an issue, what should / can I do?

    Thanks,

I don't think they're stop words, they're just words with *way* more competition that "whistleblower story" :)

OK, that I understand. But what might be the reason my main page isn't even showing up in Google for one particular keyword. Speculate if you have too. I'm at a loss, since keyword combinations rank highly.

    Thanks,

What "particular keyword" are you asking about?

The one in particular word is "whistleblower". The combinations that rank highly for me are "whistleblower story" (#2) and "whistleblower advice" (#2). As for "whistleblower" I can't find it in the top 500 results. Odd?

Any one word phrase is exponetially more difficult to rank high for than two or three word phrases. Your site has a relatively low PR and only 10 inbound links showing in Google. As you naturally grow more links, you site will improve in the rakings over time for more phrases.

I just did a check on your site for whistleblower in the new google rankings and couldn't find you in the top 1000. While it is likely a much more competitive phrase, seems odd you would not show up at all.

You don't seem to show up for allinanchor for "whistleblower" at all.

That's exactly the problem. I have written an article on "whistleblowing" and submitted it to many of the "article submission sites". I am listed in the Open Directory and have had this story covered by a a relatively large media outlet, that previously linked to my site.

It seems I have the right combination of SEO, but no luck! Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think contacting Google would help?
