i have recently redesigned a site that was live since 2007. it was a bold move and maybe a wrong move. i used to get 250+ unique visitors daily and maybe 90% one way inbound links. approx 50% of links were to the homepage and others were hotlinks to images in subpages that no longer exist. now i only get 50 unique visitors per day. how long will it take for my traffic to increase again..? most pages are indexed but why arent they high up in serps as before? site is http://www.bmwgallery.co.uk/ for analysis.
Did you change the URL's of your inner pages? If so... you may want to redirect the old URL's to the new ones.
you should create a .htaccess file if you are in linux server(similar stuffs for other servers) so any 404 pages get directed to the home page.
yup webcosmo is exactly right. just create a .htaccess redirect because people going to your old links are being took to error pages now
will this redirect have to stay in place forever now i take it? i have read in the past that Big G isnt keen on redirects. im also guessing that by now (4 weeks since the site redesign finished) that the old pages have been deindexed. search engines aside, will the hotlinks to images etc by others on other sites, will that come into play with the .htaccess too?
