Site ranks 1st page for Google, but not other engines

Hi everyone!, there's a site I'm working on that ranks on the 1st page on Google for about 20 different real estate related keywords. It has had great ranking for the last 8 months or so. It's a very popular site with tons of great content for real estate in Boston, Massachusetts. When I search on Yahoo, MSN, or any other search engines, the site hardly ranks for the same keywords.

Has anyone heard of this, a site ranking high for Google but hardly ranking on Yahoo & the other search engines?

each search engine has its own algorithm and works differently. getting ranked on google for a term will not usually get you rank well on other SEs. if you want to get ranked well on yahoo and msn, then you need to optimize for those SEs and work accordingly

What does Google usually look for?

And, what does Yahoo, and the others usually look for?

All search engines have a different algorithm and no one but those companies know the exact formula. It is not uncommon at all to get ranked in Google and not the others. One way to improve your chances in Yahoo is to submit a site map to them through yahoo site explorer.

The best way is to just keep building solid back links and keep targeting your key words. Yahoo seems to prefer related niche links even more than Google does. I would try to find some quality links with in your niche.

Search engines have different formula in ranking websites. :) They have different algorithms that's why they have different results. I had read that yahoo focus more on the content of your site rather than links. Anyway, just continue optimizing your site not only to the big G but also to other SE.

Most of the users search for information, services, products etc on Google and if you are ranking good on Google then its a plus point for you.If you want to go for other search engines then you can submit your site map to those search engines like you did with Google. There are very few companies who also consider to rank in other search engines.

My expirence is that yahoo prefer good back link, and then content. Google, good content and then good backlinks.

My site rankes good in yahoo and bing, but not that good in good yet :)

Each search engine has a different algorithm. By doing this, Google may rank your keywords high and Yahoo does not. I really would not worry about that much. Google is still the KING when it comes to search. Hands Down.
