Site ranks #1 in Yahoo and on page 5 in Google

I have had a site for the past 3 years. It is tweaked for Adsense and does pretty well. For my key words, it ranks #1 slot in Yahoo, MS, and other search engines. For the same key words, it is (and nearly always has been) on page 5 for Google. Why would that be?

    Thanks for your comments,
    Faithe

Well... all of those Search engines have different ranking systems. Try to build backlinks with your keyword as the anchor text.. it will pull up your rank in google.

Always should be opposite first in G and last in yahoo and MSN.. Ranking in each SE based on the keyword and its optimization. Check the status through google webamster tool and also make some quantity BL

Ranking well in the search engines require both on-page and off-page optimization however,
google has a different algorithm and there are many links that will help your site to rank
well in the other search engines that google will not count.

Please make a note of kingofsanda's comment. He is right on the money on this one. Google weighs both (On page) and (Off page) optimization elements when assigning overall SEO value ranking to websites.

I think its been said, but different search engines use different algorithms. This means then that they all deliver different search results. I think yahoo relies alot more on the domain keywords and on page keywords and google uses alot more off page (inbound links etc) to rank sites. Not to say that on page SEO isnt important with google.

Yes, I agree with that general assessment based on my other experience. I have quite a number of inbound links to this site, which is why I can't figure out why it is not ranking higher.

Any other suggestions for what to work on?

    Thanks.

I checked today and now I'm on page 10 of Google. Guess I'll try some more backlinks and see if that will help.

    Thanks.

googl and Yahoo have different algorithms, just like other search engines. Most of the time they show different results. The reason why you still remain number 5 could be the stiffness on the keywords competition. The sites above you are more optimized than yours, try to analyze what they do to their site and apply it to yours.

They are totally different ranking algorithms, while Google focuses more on relevancy and backlinks theme beside content..
    And i agree with: 'Link.ezer.com' post ;)
