    have you tried geo targeting?
You can setup Geographical Preferences in Google Webmaster Tools.

I would rather not mess around with geo targeting. I did that once and it completely messed up my sites. People were finding my in UAE and other foreign languages.

i suggest you add geo meta tag. One more important thing while showing your pages in india your website should be hosted on indian server if you want good ranking in pages from india.

Maybe, your site is mainly optimized for .com

Why not getting some backlinks from .co.in sites and monitor your ranking.

    kishorc,

If you have many backlinks from many countries, to your site, google decides that you are international connected and because of that rank your site well at google.com, google international.

So get backlinks local from you country, from India. That’s it, nothing else.

Guess it's a Geo-Targeting issue, have you added India as the country in the Webmasters Tools ??

I agree. Get more links from Indian sites. Also: try adding the site to google local directory. That might help too. Sometimes it take a while

By default, domain names with a .com TLD are assumed by Google to be targeting Google.com visitors. By default domain names with a .co.in TLD are assumed by Google to be targeting Google.co.in visitors.

You need to decide if you would rather rank in Google.com? or Google.co.in? It is NOT very likely that you will ever rank well in both. If you would rather rank in Google.com then you are perfectly fine as you are. If, however, you would like for your .com domain to target Google.co.in then you need to get a Google Webmaster Tools account, verify your site under that account, and set your Geographical targeting to India.

Then you need to work on getting backlinks from other sites that also target Google.co.uk. Hopefully your web host is also in India. It's not mandatory, but it does give you a slight edge if you're trying to rank in Google.co.in.
