Hi, I was wondering, if somebody could tell me, if the directory structure of your site, will in any way help you with your site ranking on google.Like for instance at this stage some of my sites, have like 10 directories that includes the images, headers, banners etc and some of my newer sites has a lot less, and ranks better than the others. Another question I have is, say for instance you have a portal site, that take u to your other sites, will it help to categorize the portal site's directories, by placing each corresponding sites pages into it's appropriate folders. I hope I am clear on this Any feedback on this will be helpful.
I have no proof, but my assumption is that yes, this helps. Anything that allows the SE to more logically follow your site's content is a good thing.
It will most certainly will. This is referred to as LSI or latent semantic indexing where every category of your site has a "sub theme" of the main theme. If your site bleeds its theme all over the place your rankings are going to be negatively affected. All of the top sites have a proper folder structure to their website. This is becoming more prevelant with each passing day.
Answer: Structure your site so that any and all pages can be visited within 2 clicks of the homepage. Many people use a site map or some page that links everyhting else together. Use your keywords for directories...
