I'm planning to overhaul my site so that I can easily make sitewide changes. The programmer I am working with wants to create a kind of content management system with dynamically created pages. I have good placements in the SERPs and am concerned about losing these. Can you kindly advise as to what I should make sure I do in order to protect my standings in the search engines? The consensus among webmasters I have contacted so far has pretty much been 'MAKE SURE THE URLS REMAIN THE SAME!' Muchos Gracias
I have to agree with those sentiments. Where possible, keep urls the same. If for some reason that is unavoidable, use 301 redirects to point pages to your new urls to let the search engines know the content has permanantly moved to a new url.
