If you're talking about pedophiles and child pornography again, then yes please, I'd like that very much. For anything else, never mind... forget I was even here.
I am really amazed how a thread started by a high school kid looking to see why his site has not been listed has turned into the typical ODP bashing. Everything from editors quitting - to the typical (seems like every thread has one) "ODP lists pedophile sites". How these threads can get so far off the mark is beyond me. The problems within the directory are not impossible to correct, and they are far from as bad as they are made out to be. Whining about them day and night in these faceless chats are serving no purpose whatsoever. I say we all get together, have a pint of ale, and discuss this like rational humans - not like little chickens behind their computer screens. Like angela would say "Have a nice day ."
Then why weren't they corrected long ago? They are every bit as bad. So we keep hearing. But if that's true, why is it once the public heat is on, we start seeing changes? And why is it that DMOZ editors can't seem to sign up here fast enough to tell us that we're wasting our time or how whatever the problem is can't be fixed?
I did not sign up to blow fairy dust up anyones butt. Any problem can be fixed if the person(s) doing the fixing are so inclined. Nothing in life seems perfect, unless you stay doped up all the time. One thing we all have in common - being worm food some day. Me, I would prefer to take life as it comes and not sweat the small stuff,, oh yah, and drink beer.
DMOZ is a very secretive organization. That is one of the reasons there is so much speculation. And if all of the allegations being made are false, then why not prove it?
I wouldn't last 48 hours. For one thing, I'd out every lying sniveling smokescreening scumbucket I could find all the way up to the admins. And that's only one of the rules I'd break, since almost none of them make sense to me or to most of the rational world. Besides, even if I were interested (and trust me, I'm not), can you see any of the DMOZ mucky-mucks approving me as an editor? Now put me in charge (and I mean with authority over the admins) and I'd whip that damn thing into shape within a month. A major strategy would be getting rid of half the current editors, making rules that make sense and would be enforced stringently and consistently, and dumping the Adult section entirely. Then, cleaning up submission queues would become the priority for ALL editors, including notifications to submitters as to reasons for rejection. Basically, what DMOZ needs is to become transparent and truly open, stop acting like some high school ingroup when anyone questions what it does, and stop acting like some terrorist group under seige, afraid to venture out of the hole in the ground cave for fear of being spotted and arrrested. Still want me as an editor?
Honestly, I think you'd make a great editor and I do think you would be approved. You'd have to start out like everyone else, but if you're really good at outing lying sniveling smokescreening scumbuckets, I can see you being promoted very quicky.
Yeah minstrel, put your money where your mouth is for once. You have nothing to loose. I think you would be a great editor. (and please do not respond with, "the current guidelines and atmosphere of the ODP is too repugnant for me" argument. Thanks) Maybe Annie can mentor you. LOL
You missed the part about how some of the ones who need to be outed are metas and admins. Oh, and any editor participating in that travesty known as The Resourceless Zone would be fired instantly - no appeal.
That seems kinda closed minded. Should current admin say "Oh, and any editor participating in that travesty known as The Digitalpointless will be fired instantly - no appeal." just becasue they don't agree with a point of view or fear of its affects? Don't miss interpret this as defending RZ either.
No, we didn't miss the part about metas and admins, they have to follow rules just like the rest of us. If any of them don't, then they need to be outed. Do you know that it needs to be done and are you the one who can do it? Participating in Resource Zone shouldn't be reason for removal, but they should all have to comply with the communications guidelines. If they don't, by all means file an abuse report. Any editor who can't follow the guidelines needs to go.
