No, not even once. I kept to myself and learned slowly though, I didn't jump right in.

That's sad, I have no personal knowledge of that sort of thing happening. I'm not part of any party line, I'm not even aware of any party line. If that sort of thing happens, how do you know it's part of toeing the party line or just some rogue editor crossing the line? If someone spoke to me like that I would assume they were doing it as an individual, without the backing of other editors. Maybe I'm clueless.

It is clear both parties were satisfied with the outcome, the ex-editor agreeing with the decision (which hardly makes it a typical case, non?).

    The rest is flubbleglub.

I didn't see that post by Summer but I don't see how that changes anything at all. She wasn't booted out because she agreed that she should be booted out - she was booted out for daring to disagree and for challenging the traditional RZ ratpack tactics. Whether or not she is happy with the decision doesn't justify either the tactics of those editors or the decision to fire her.

One huge difference is that Vicious Enterprises is a private company. DMOZ is not.

    DMOZ is Such a Joke

    ...................
Seriously, DMOZ is such a joke. I tried to go about doing this the right way by posting in the public forum (when I easily could have emailed an editor internally, since I'm a FUCKING EDITOR), but instead a bunch of morons try to pretend they know more about MY company then I do. I own the company, I edit the fine lingerie catagory in DMOZ and you're going to tell ME that I don't know the name of my very own LINGERIE WEBSITE. I have no patience for stupidity, sorry.

    From Summer's blog

    She sounds very satisfied.

Note to Admins in DP: if DMOZ editors complain about this post and try to get me banned, it is not me that is calling them morons. It is summer who is also an admin in DP that calls them morons.

    :D

Anyone with a clue, would have saw her interaction for what it really was. VS wanted to know why her site wasn't listed in what she thought were better categories. She was told why her site wouldn't be deep linked according to Dmoz guidelines. She was adamant about why she was right, and when she couldn't get her way resorted to bitching (as she clearly acknowledges) and saying Dmoz sucks. Why? Because she couldn't get her site deep linked. Now, If I were a Meta, I would be suspicious of her motives for wanting to be an editor in the first place if she believes Dmoz sucks. Did she think she could get preferential treatment where her site is concerned because she's an editor? I've seen those posts on the internal forums pop up every now and then about how an editor wants to know if he/she can get their site reviewed quickly just because they're an editor, and they quickly find out that that's not going to happen. But, asking that question will also make people watch your edits more closely. And, I'm not condemning her or anything, but she acknowledged that she would have fired herself, too, so she's also one of the smart people who realize why she was let go and that she's responsible for it.

And, I just want to add, that I think she was just frustrated about not getting her site listed in the categories she wanted them listed, and I'm sure she didn't think she was going to get preferential treatment.

I could be wrong but that's not what I remember. Her site was already listed and she requested a title change. She had three sites, the other two weren't listed and she wasn't asking for them to be listed.

Either enigma doesn't know what he is talking about since he posts according to his universal guideline of "I don't know and I don't think" or Annie who is an editall and involved in shopping, doesn't know jack about the DMOZ guideline.

    You be the judge.

And since there is no way to establish how I might have lost my editing position, how would I appeal? The two reasons I can imagine I could have been judged:
    1) They didn't like something I said. In this case, I published a link to this http://www.domaintools.com/internet-statistics/dmoz-listings.html?page=1 on several forums, and mentioned there were a lot of questionable sites. Here is an example of my post: http://www.webmaster-talk.com/the-other-search-engines/32183-dmoz-top-listed-domains.html
I actually believe it was productive to bring these things out, because by now it is quite evident that "outside pressures" have been very effective in helping police dmoz, case in point: Child Porn
    2) I did not list all of the domains I own. I have a few hundred, and most are not even listed in DMOZ. ;)

If someone who is an authority at DMOZ would like be to go through an appeal process, let me know.

I don't know anything as being fact, but in my personal opinion if summer had requested mediation rather than losing her temper she may have gotten what she requested. It happens.

Supplementary note to DP Admins and Moderators: I am given to understand that it is not acceptable to call DMOZ editors morons. However, if one becomes aware that someone else has called DMOZ editors morons, is it acceptable to agree with such a statement?

Supplementary to supplementary note: Is it acceptable to say that one does not necessarily agree with the view that DMOZ editors are not morons? or does that also contravene the policy?

Please note that I am not expressing any opinions about DMOZ editors in this post, nor am I disagreeing with any public or stated policies here at DP or anywhere else at the moment - I'm just looking for clarification of policy... :D

To make it clear from the very beginning, I don't have your clues, and I am thinking a little different about this whole issue. For the record, here is the link to the respective thread at RZ http://resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43142
as I did never read anything about vicious summer asking for a "deep link", before you start re-writing history I will have to read that thread again. "Now if I were a meta", thank god you are not.

Sorry gworld, we aren't biting. Enigma and I saw different pieces of the puzzle, neither of us knows the whole story. We are both expressing an opinion based on knowing only bits and pieces. :D

The way RZ is sending editors over here to register, I am sure no matter how you formulate it, it will be many complains to moderators to ban you, delete the thread or at least lock it.
DMOZ tries to enforce these policies on any outside forum that discusses DMOZ and it is not under direct censorship of Admins like internal forum or resourceless zone. ;)

Okay, you're right. That thread was from a while ago and I incorrectly remembered that she was asking for a her site name to be changed, and not for her other sites to be listed as you've mentioned. ;)

Enigma didn't see any puzzle, it was never about deeplinks (also should be noted that practice of deep links is viciously defended in adult). He just made up an story to justify what has happened.
I understand your reluctance to know the whole story, we don't want the same thing that happened to summer, happen to you. ;)

Vulcano is correct. What Summer posted was this:

    Hardly abusive.

    Then jimignoble stepped in with:

    and Summer explained:

Again, no abusiveness at all there. She continued (after some hearty bantering among the RZ editors):

Seems pretty reasonable and polite to me. Am I missing something?

Now in pops bobrat/macdesign, who you may remember as the exemplary editor who has a site selling status reports about DMOZ submissions, with this:

Now we see Summer getting a little frustrated but that's hardly surprising:

And then bobrat/macdesign becomes outraged because his puny authority is being challenged

    (emphasis in the original)

And that's basically when Summer's tenure as an editor was over.

Let's not try to pretty it up with rationalizations.

Off topic: maybe someone should alert bobrat/macdesign that the nigritude ultramarine contest has been over for... I don't know... a decade?

#2 could be the reason. Maybe they found more sites that your were involved in and thought your were intentionally trying to hide your affiliation. It doesn't matter if they are listed in Dmoz or not, they should still be listed in your affiliations.

So you are admitting that Annie was right and it wasn't about deep links. You didn't know what has happened and your post got nothing to do with reality of situation. Your post was the result of your universal guideline, you didn't know and you didn't think.
