which is the most important site meta or page meta?

in my site meta i have the name of my site Title with a short Description & about 30 Keywords

    then i have a page meta TITLE,DESCRIPTION,KEYWORDS!

is it worth me adding Keywords or description in the page meta tags?

i have read that google doesnt focus much on keywords that much, so what i have done is used the keywords in a sensible way in my page title tags! as after all is the most important tag search engines will crawl!

im i right in doing this?

    suggestions and feedback welcome

    thanks

i have not heard about site meta tags, yes every page has meta tags and they must be unique. You can use keywords meta tag as Google may not see it but other Search Engines can.

There is no such thing as a "site" <meta> element unless you simply mean the <meta> elements for your home page.

Search engines rank each URL on your site separately. Each page can have it's own <title>, own set of <meta> elements, own <h1>, own <h2>s, own content, etc.

Quite frankly, from an SEO ranking perspective, the <meta> elements are not used at ALL by most major engines. Google, for instance, totally ignores the <meta name="keywords"> and <meta name="description"> elements with ranking URLs for a particular keywords because of their extensive abuse by blackhats in the past.

The <meta name="description"> element IS important but for a reason other than rankings. If all of the words in a search phrase appear in your <meta name="description"> element, Google will typically show the value of the content attribute of the <meta name="description"> element as the snippet for your URL in the SERPs. Having a good snippet (i.e. <meta name="description">) can greatly increase your click-thru-rate in the SERPs.

The title tag is important for ranking and the description tag for attracting visitors. It is generally though that the keywords tag is ignored.

<title> is not a meta tag although it is frequently mistakenly referred to as such. The HTML <title> element is the MOST important on-page ranking factor.

The <meta name="keywords"> element is ignored by virtually every search engine on the planet because of its abuse in the past. So it won't help your page rank at all.

The <meta name="description"> element is ignored by Google from a ranking perspective. Although, it is VERY important from a click-thru-rate perspective since it can be shown by Google as the snippet in the SERPs if all keywords from the user's search phrase appear in the <meta name="description"> element.

search engines don't rely on meta tags for serps. if they do, its of very minor value.

Page Title and Meta Description are very important to a website. Keywords used correctly in a page title carry a decent amount of weight.

When it comes to the Meta description, this is an opportunity to sell your product or service, much in the same way that those using Pay-per Click would use Adtext. It is important to make sure that each Meta description describes the content of each particular page.

Most of the search engines including Google doesn't give same credit for the Title and Meta tags.

It is essential to include all your targeted keywords in the Title tags and possible within 65 characters. Though search engines index more number of characters it displays only 65 characters in the search results.
However the meta tags - Meta description and meta keywords are not considered so seriously for the SEO process by the search engine.

Apart from this having the keywords in the URL itself separated by hyphens may yield more productive.
