    Hi,
I had this site ranking for several keywords and now today all of a sudden it has vanished for all keywords it was ranking for.I can't find the site in top 20 or 30 spots.Even for the site's name it's on second or sometimes third page?Am i penalized?I have not done anything black hat.
    Thanks

How old is your site? If it's fairly new then that may explain it as Google often ranks new sites well initially based on the on-site SEO and then once Google determines your back links, etc. your site will move down in the rankings. You need to work on content and backlinks to move back up in the rankings.

If your site is not new then you may be suffering from a penalty of some kind.

I think just changing meta tags must not be the reason for ranking degradation. How old is your site and what it is about?

I detect many changes on Google SERPS the last days. Not only to sites of mine or friend's sites, but in my own searches.
Today i did some searches and obtain strange (and not good) results. I think they are tweaking the code again, but im sure that they will not let it as it is today. Many (really many) of the #1 results has not much traffic, so the sites are not much relevant.

i can assure you that changing meta tags would have little to do with things.

    Must be something else.

There appears to be SERP changes over the last couple of days. It may be a big change, or the typical Google Dance. Just wait and see if things return to normal.

To answer your question, YES, you have been penalized.

Google sometimes punishes sites even if they are not overtly black hat. You may have simply overlooked something, or done something without realizing that Google would punish you for it. Also, sometimes Google drops sites for no good reason whatsoever.

Everyone is saying that it can't be meta tags, but I wouldn't be so sure. Google is suspicious when a website does mass changes or changes anything drastically. A lot of times drastic changes do result in a temporary penalty. In most cases that penalty eventually disappears. Just be patient and keep getting more backlinks. Also keep adding more unique content.

I think you'd better not to change to meta tag.

This often happens to sites which have been recently launched. Do not worry about the serps and continue to build the content...

Good content and good networking will get you good and long lasting serps.

I've heard that when you make major changes, like to your site title, that it can cause problems.. What else have you done for SEO?

You have to be really careful with those kind of changes sometimes - especially if it's all over your site. Vansterdam is probably right, but it's hard to tell without more info from you

it is possible due to change in meta you lost your rankings ... I have seen that all rankings are sensitive to meta tags...
