I say DP should be closed to guests and open to contributing registered users. :D

you do understand that we're talking about $100,000 U.S. worth of servers right?

You have to have a pretty damn good site to over load those Dell blades... but I guess we're doing it lol

DP is on 10 Dell blade servers- $100,000!

I really don't think bots can do much to that much hardware...

the forums itself wouldn't need 10 servers
I'd bet the tools are what drag the site down ?

I've been visiting on an off for a while and I can't seem to find a time when the load times are normal. I used to lurk around a few months ago and load times were fine then. I hope they find out what's causing it.

I live in Italy and first i thought was a dns issue on my end, i'm happy it's not my fault but unhappy because i must reload some pages more than 2 times to see them. IE works better than FF it this problem...hope DP comes normal soon.

When I found DP a year ago it kept getting the top SERP for the things I was looking for. I figured I was here enough, I might as well join. Once joined, I started to use the internal search and found it even better then google because I trusted DP anmd the answers I found here. However, as time has passed, getting the search to completely load has been harder and harder.

I am about to once gain resort to Google, and if I do that, then I may find another site to hang my virtual hat on... and I assume that if I am considering leaving, others are, and I know that if I am leaving due to the loading issues, then others will not join due to those issues.

IMHO, this is lose/lose on the part of DP. As the load times are losing existing members and not capturing new ones... while this may eventually be a WIN/WIN for the existing member base that stays, it's still bad overall...

I occasionally get page not found in FF when I either attempt to go to the forum homepage or when I click User CP - the bottom half (with infraction/rep info) doesn't load, it just cuts the page off. I guess whatever produces that section must be relatively server intensive.

One way to help speed things up would be to make the forums viewable only by members but wouldn't this cause a problem with Google crawling the forums, and thus, bringing less traffic into the forums, therefore bringing less registered users? (It would also stop guests from clicking the Adsense ads...no more free monthly coffee's for us:().

Or to make the forums have some form of setting which only allows guests to view X number of posts before they have to register/login - with a paid registry fee, which in turn would generate more revenue to cover costs of such hardware upgrades.

Alternatively, I could just shut up and you could all just shoot me down in flames:D

Same issue for about the last week and a half...slow to load and timing out at both work and home. I've noticed that it happens when it is transferring info from Google Analytics and Google Syndication...maybe it's their servers...LOL.

It is getting so annoying to have to refresh. I've timed out in the middle of posts and PM's. I equate it to a bad and persistent cough. I don't know what the problem is, I just wish that DP would fix it.

the dynamic pages cause the high loads, because the threads/profiles/etc don't exist as sepparate files on the server, they are generated from the database

static pages can't really cause high loads

    cheers,
    Tom

Its very slow for 4-5 hours during the peaktime, almost everyday. I find that DP loads a bit faster in FireFox than in IE.

I really can't stand this now as its getting really annoying. DP is getting slower and slower and I keep on getting Connection Reset error when half of the page loads. Shawn please look into this.
