very, less than 3sec is much better than >3sec, 3-7 sec is another level, >7sec is consider very slow, unless your content is very good, otherwise you will lose your rank

A slow site affect the visitors experience & Google always want to give better experience to visitors & that's why Google added page speed in its also last year. Second, it may also reduce the crawling rate to your site.

Do we know any measurements when it comes to Google? Like exactly how many backlinks a day will get you penalized, etc.

The fact is we don't know exactly. What that means your best guest is as good as ours, assuming your a reasonable a person.

What I do know for a fact is time outs= BAD SEO and you can only assume that the faster your pages load the better. I think any reasonable person could arrive at that.

Matt Cutts actually has a video on this. He tells us not to obsess over load times. Since it's not a huge part of SEO. They just want to make sure that your website isn't timing out. Still faster = better.

site loading has nothing to do with seo, but has a lot of impact on users. so basically it's pretty simple - just do what's better for visitors, and it won't harm your seo efforts :)

Exactly. Faster is better; otherwise, people will loose interest in your site, leave alone the seo part.

site loading time is one of the most important building blocks of a successful site. SEO penalties aside, remember that if a site takes too long to load, your readers will most likely leave your site and go to the next best one they find on google.

having a slow loading site or broken links on your site is a recipe for disaster...

I always try to make my sites as fast loading as possible.
Why? Because I would not want to visit a site that takes more than 3 seconds to load each page if it does not have super hot content.

The lower the website load time, the chance to get high PR as in my experience. Try to minimize site load time as much as you can.

No one even Google itself ever speak of how much page loading time influence site ranking. However I do not think it could be a big factor after all. We all do agree that faster loading time is a better experiences for all visitors. However the far more important is site itself quality. Which one do you think they would rank better between a garbage site with zero link but very fast loading time vs quality site with a tons of links but much slower loading time? :) Guess it.

I have a report somewhere with a table showing % of visitors you lose versus page loading time.
It included test results carried out by Microsoft.
Sorry - can't find a copy amongst my terabyle backups.
Anyway the magic number was ... HALF a second!
Take longer than that and you start losing impatient visitors.
Guess it depends on how desperate they are to read your page - and whether they are somewhere with a slow internet connection.
Around the half second mark, I think you start to lose 10% of visitors.
If it takes 3 to 5 seconds to load your page, you could well be losing half your visitors

Of course the faster is better but utlimately the deciding point is how your visitors perceive your site and what information is google collecting from them ....
