I have been rattling around for a year trying to understand internet site promotion techniques etc, but found myself getting blinded with loads of information that I end up losing my way and all confused. Needless to say my site has suffered. It is for this reason I am back on the information path for the Holy Grail for Internet traffic, but this time I am going about it by compiling my own set of information that I can understand. I know this is going to be a long hard road, but Hay-Ho, never mind. I am trying to start off on the right foot and I have the following flow diagram intended to identify core areas to concentrate on. My site is a retail one so the more visitors I get the more sales I get (Supposedly) Have a look at the below and let me know if I have missed any fundamentals and I will add them. As you can see I have a retail site that has a blog as a Sub domain. I am still working on thoughts for appropriate sites to put into the owner controlled site bit. To any others in the same boat as me, feel free to use this if you wish
I'd add press release sites to your chart. They are great for backlinks and kind of stand on their own. Here is a good list of free press release sites to get you started.
You guys are absolutely right I do expect to have back links from sites outside of my control, and Press releases is another I missed off - Cheers guys. I have added that aspect and others to the chart now.
