site jumping from first position to 'last' position every day

    Hi

Something weird is going on with a website i have managed for last 5 years. It has been at #1 for a strong keyword phrase for last 4-5 years.

Over the last couple of months i noticed that it is only at the top slot 'off peak' ! from about 10pm - 7am, during 'daylight hours' it drops off the google radar completely ......

but only for the strongest keyword phrase - all other search terms are still ranking well 24 hrs a day. as a result traffic from google is down by about 50%.

has anybody else experienced anything like this ?

i have no idea how to tackle it, don't want to hurt the good rankings that i still have

you can target your ad to certain hours, so other advertisers probably target during the day and then you don't have as much competition at night so you rank higher

It's being filtered out probably because you're over optimizing your target keyphrase. A little more SEO and you'll totally lose rankings for that keyphrase.

Sounds like Googles Servers are dancing, as recently Google are making alot of changes to their Algorithms, i wouldn't worry too much, might just be a temporary thing until all their data centres have all merged

I don't think targeting other keyphrases would solve the issue with your current keyphrase. You have to solve that issue causing the filter first. For instance do you have lots of sitewide links pointing to your site with that target keyword? Try removing unnecessary links and keep only the PR ones.

But this is just my impression about the thing you describe here. So be careful, and make sure that you're having a filter before doing anything about it.

nowdays it seems to be one long google dance - which has no begining and no end.

perhaps its like painting the "Forth Road Bridge" - as soon as you finish, its time to start at the begining again
