Site is looking to drab lately, what do you think

After completing my template, the colors are just to drab wondering if I added a few more colors and make it little brighter would at all help. Any ideas or suggestions what I can do to make it come to life

IMO, use some colorful backdrops to fill the both sides (in blue color) is better.

 

Gonna try and some clouds/sun to it make it a little more kiddy and lively.

 

Ack! No! What's wrong with it now?! You don't need color or clouds or giraffes! Nobody cares about that. They come to your site for content not colors! If anything, make the blue borders around the boxes thinner, 1px thin, and black or gray. I find your site easy to navigate and very readable. One of the better ones I've seen. If you start cluttering it up with squiggles and cubes, what purpose do they serve? I can make my own clouds and squiggles so why distract me from your content? Leave it alone!

 

In your content cubes, use some soft gradient backgrounds. It's simple, it's light-weight, and it really makes things stand out. Also, dress up the top image. If you want to put more characters and clouds, that's the best place to add them.

 

Yes I bring is more colour for sure. You don't need to go OTT though.

 

I actually found an image for the background/sides that worked out well. Will be trying the new suggestions. Thank you.
