My site was on first page for targeted keyword and now has completely disappeared. How to find out the reasons and get rid of it?

There is something called the Google dance – this is when Google carry out some periodic updates. When this happens, website rankings may change and search results may fluctuate. For example, If your website was number 1 it may go to 500. You just need to keep optimizing your website to stay on number 1.

Its google dancing - or Google Sandbox

depends what you did for it to get there, if you spamed fiverr gigs then its probably the 2nd option.

    Hi,

It is not unusual for a new site to rank high for a while and then disappear.

    How old is your site?

What sort of promotion did you use to get there?

How long has it been "nowhere" and how often do you check your ranking.

What software do you use to check your ranking? Some software will do a good job of handling "localization", etc. but other make a mess of it and you get wildly different results.

Hope this starts to help you.

    Best,
    InternetMarketing108

Hi Hand of A'dal. That could be the "Google honeymoon period", meaning the honeymoon is over. For the first couple of months Google tend to give a site the benifit of doubt by ranking it quite high in the search. If the site fails to perform they simply demote it to were it belongs. There is also a possibility of an algorithm update. But this is all pure speculation. It would indeed help if you submited a URL. Regards, knysna.

Perhaps your site has been penalized. Check what you did for it's backlinks campaigns.

Have you done any back linking recently? If so, what was the quality of the work?

One of two things has likely to have happened, google dance, or your site has been penalised for some reason.

To quote from both threads, "my site was on the first page" and "How to find out the reasons and get rid of it?"

That is very much the same. A site is always appearing in search due to keywords.

The few things you should check before doing anything.
1] Check the content quality. Your website content must be unique.
2] If you have ads place on the top of the header then remove it. Google is not allowing users to putting ads on header section.
3] Check above the fold matter [Google Update]. If you do not have content on the top of the page and page starting with the banner or other images then it may lower your search engine position.
4] Check duplicate pages. Most of the time people use cms for managing their data. CMS pages are open search for search engine. If they find any url while crawling the cms then it will get index on google. This situation creates duplication of your pages, some time it get hide from your eye because you never know the page get index back side of search engine. So try to use some link checker software for finding the pages available on your website.
5] Use google webmaster tool or robots.txt files for de-indexing the pages which are duplicates on website.
6] Revert every recent changes done by you. Maybe this is creating the issue with the ranking.
