    Hi,

I optimized my site for a certain keyphrase with backlinks with the keyphrase as anchor text a few months ago and for the past month or two my site has been appearing in position 7 and then all of a sudden dissapearing from the search completely i.e. I couldn't find it in the furthest back page, anyone know why this is?

    thanks

There is a good chance you are getting results from different data centers. Just keep building more backlinks and be patient. In time your rankings should stabilize across the Google data centers. In some cases Google may think you are more relevant to a certain geographical area. So ensure you are getting links from websites from across your entire target region.

Vansterdam is right. Often times your rankings will jump all around while your website is settling on higher or lower rankings. You can usually determine where you are actually at in a month or two...

I agree with previous comments. Google ranks will go up and down and then stabilize for sometime. You have to wait and see.

This happened to me when growing my forum. Google bounces all over the place. One day I'd rank front page and then the next I'd rank 30th. It's not worth worrying about, Google will find the right place for you and then you'll stop swinging up and down the rankings so much. Give it another month and it should settle.

your link building profile is probably still not strong enough to give you a stable position, with the right link building behind your website, and there is a difference between fluctuating and not being able to find your website at all, also maybe ur website is just still new and google has been playing with it in the first 2 or 3 months of its life, often a website get temporary good rankings for a few weeks then you lose those rankings only to comeback 6-7 months later, now it's really difficult to answer your question or give you any useful tip without seeing your website. so am not sure what to advice here.

Yeah, mines a forum too, forum has been up since September 08. I optimized for one search term in December and since January we've been No.2 in the SERP. For this certain keyphrase though and another one we've been jumping up and down, guess its just down to patience.

Yeah, your site is relatively new so this is bound to happen. Keep doing what you're doing and once a ~year is up then you'll know where you're at.

    Good luck!
