I have a site with a forum, the forum is in a folder /forum/

In the settings for my account, should I choose phpBB or Other?
Does that matter or is that only for the instuctions?

    It's only for the instructions.

Ok, will the system automatically give me weight for the folder /forum/ or do I have to sign upp with two accounts for that to happen? I have added the ads in the forums, but no weight gained.

If the ads are displaying properly then you have the include pointing to the root directory or where ever the ad files are located. You should be fine provided the forum files are cached. It works for mine in the same situation, the only problem I have is that google keeps deindexing and reindexing my forum files all the time!

You automatically get weight. You don't (and can't) add an account for each sub-folder.
