I'm not sure if this is the right section, but this thread isn't really to sell my sites rather to see what they are worth because of late I have been thinking about off loading them to focus on other things in life. However seeing I have no idea of site values or what people pay for sites and domains I was wondering if some people could give me some rough estimates of what my sites might be worth. Well because I'm not selling at this point in time I won't give out the domain names, but I'll describe the major features. I have three sites that I'd sell in total and they are aill about online gamng, MMORPGs to be more specific. Between them they earn me around $300 - $400 a month off adsense and have been reasonably consistant earners over the last 3 or so months. Between them they get around 3000 unique visitors a day and two of them have page ranks of 4 and one has a page rank of 3. The two with page ranks of 4 have been established for around 15 months now and the site with the page rank 3 has only been up and running for about a month but already receives around 600 unquies on average and is already ranking fairly well in google. The main two sites have about 7000 - 8000 inbound links between them according to google and the newer site has around 100. As for where all the traffic is coming from, well on average between the sites about 40% of it comes from search engines and the remainder is from websites. As for rankings in the SERPS for the main topic keyword for all the sites they aren't in the top 10 but they do rank well usually on the seond or third page, plus the site topics are highly popular topics such that all my sites still receive tons of traffic from being listed on the second pages. Whilst they probably could use a little more SEO on the main keywords they do have many other keywords and pharse that rank well in the top 10 of not just google but the other major search engines as well. All my traffic is natural and I have never run an advertising campaign for it - they are just fan sites so I haven't exactly invested a great deal into them much past the hosting and domain names. I dont really want to be divulging everything about my sites and I think I have covered most of the major aspects that would be factored in a purchase appraisal. So does anyone have some estimates as to what I might expect such a portfolio to be worth.
You might have better luck Here. But as far as value goes, 1 yrs revenue seams to be a good guide to buying and selling sites.. If your sites are making b/w 300 - 400 per month, you could be looking at 3600 - 4800 dollars. But this can depend on many things, but it is a good start to valueing a site Hope it helps.
well it all depends on theme. I mean 3000 uniques a day on a forum is not worth as much as 3000 uniques a day on a credit site for example. But yeh, 3k uniques a day is a rather good figure, which should add a bit of value to that price.
So what value would that price be - like can anyone give me some estimates. Together are they worth like mid $x,xxx, or high $x,xxx or even low $xx,xxx?
I'd say 6 grand. The revenue for one year puts it at $4800 at the most. But considering you have a third site growing and a lot of traffic, it could be worth 6 thousand. That is assuming you could provide a lot of proof of all the earnings and traffic statistics. Good luck, Matthew
Why does everyone seem to use this 12 months of revenue rule - I keep seeing differenet people use different methods. Someone on another forum told me 3 years, and another person said 40 months of revenue. It all sounds so variable and open to opinion. Can I ask where is the best place to sell websites?
It depends on the age of your site. You can't base a 1 month old site on a 5 year asking price. Or vise versa. If your site's content is about video cassettes, you might not get much for it considering it won't be worth much in the future. If you have DVD content, it may be different. Will your website still be profitable in 5 years? Something to consider. To me there is so much to consider when buying an internet business. SE's are so moody, a one month ranking on page 1 doesn't mean much. It's about history and revelence. If you have a lot of history of revenue and decent backlinks/rankings, you may have some worth.
All pretty fair points. Well I guess most of those things will work against me seeing that my sites are relatively new, two of them only just ovef a year old and the other one being only a month old. Nonetheless I'm quitely confident that they have a few years of life in them yet. The two older ones are based on the MMORPG, Runescape, and the latest one is about the new MMORPG World of Warcraft - I guess it all depends on if you think those two games have longevity in them. I personally think that Runescape is a great MMORPG that isn't really in danger of dieing anytime soon considering it has been running now for over 4 years, and well WoW is one of the hottest new games out and at least in my opinion it has a fairly bright future and are potential two examples of the way gaming is going in the future. However my runescape sites do have tons of backlinks (7000 between them) and their traffic history is pretty solid, having average farily consistant traffic over the last 4 - 6 months, both around the 1000 visitors a day mark though as you would expect there has been steady growth over that period. Well I think I will probably look to sell these sites earlier next year when I can prove they have a little more long term potential a one month old site obviously doesn't attract a lot of interest. Can I ask where is the best place to sell or auction a site off?
yep.... I would go here and sitepoint... But you can also look at namepros.com too.... And sitepoint costs $10 per listing...
Considering that each site is based on a single game (or at least that's what i thought i read) I think you'd be lucky to get 1 full years revenue from them. the problem is games come and go... in 6 months the gamers will have tired out of these games and moved on to the next I would imagine...
Yeah, all the above is good advice, I also look at how much work is involved in maintaining the site. The more passive, the more value. In addition, just like they were saying above, how long will the information remain current? The more timeless the data, the better. As far as selling, I usually check here and sitepoint mainly, and dnforum.com sometimes.
Well concluding from a lot of advice I think that this isn't the right time for me to sell. Especially with my uni summer holidays coming up there is a lot I can do in terms of developing the revenues of my sites further and most of them haven't been established long enough for people to consider them serious buying material which makes me think I should maybe hang onto them for another 3 - 6 month to develop them and prove their long term viability a little more. especially seeing I have only just begun ot to optimise my adsense so my site earnings have been very undervalued in the past.
