Love is one of a Humans basic needs. Site's that cater to basic needs always do well. I was thinkin about doing a free dating site for a while. But on inspection I don't know if I would even have a chance out of 180MIL results.
Whatever the website, please don't forget that all websites need time and resources to promote. Unless you have thought through how you would like your website promoted, my advise is to focus on fewer sites at one go. Wait till they mature before moving on to other sites.
he has done much SEO on this site .. i think he earn even more than $10,000 as the site is #1 for many highly searched keywords.
Obviously if his traffic were lower it would not do as well on a daily basis. However, consider how many people are talking about his site now and his traffic is only increasing now due to the controversy. Now that is great free marketing. I also hate the flash websites. Yes they may be cool to look at the first time you view something, but I do not want to surf a site that is slow and cluttered all to hell with a bunch of high graphic and flash animations. I usually just leave and do not return unless they have something of real value that I cannot find elsewhere.
I've always been told. "Never make a site because of adsense, make the site you desire and adsense will follow."
I can't believe the guy who wrote that blog post fell for what Markus told him! LOL Plentyoffirsh.com and Markus are local to me. We've met before at a few networking events. The reason his site is so big is not because it's ugly or "anti-marketing" or any other BS terms. The reason his site is huge is because he has a huge ad budget! How big? He had ads on the season final of The Bachelor reality TV show and he spends 10's of thousand every month on Adwords. Yes his site makes him over $10K a day, but it's not all profit. But he does make enough to have a pretty damn good life!
I can believe what you said about the big ad budget. He's advertising on AdWords for a lot of expensive dating keywords. I wouldn't mind spending 5K per day to make 5K net profit. BTW, I don't think the site is "ugly" at all. It's all relative.
Not only does he advertise a lot but like it was already said, his google rankings are pretty good... Any site with that kind of google rankings would do well. So here again the secret of success: Work on your google SERPS, get traffic. Watch your work give you money! Good luck PS.- Damn, $10,000 a day
You see where it has the drop down menu where it says I'm a (Guy/Girl) looking for a (Guy/Girl). If he were to put that above the google ad it would drop down over the google ad.Thus! Allowing for a few "accidental clicks".
Damn. .. I'm definitely out of it. I searched on my zip code and there were over 800 listings from my area. I've never heard of these guys until that post! I guess I'm over the hill? His UI is not bad. Very focused. He gives his visitors what they want.
I have to agree, if the case is you are just looking for money and not enjoyment. I have four sites... and as it turns out, the ugliest one gets the most income, but the most neatly designed gets the most hits but the least amount of income.
Abit of blessing I believe...but shouldn't be entirely luck. He must be good at driving traffic to his website.
Imageshack.us does this well... the file upload box pops right over their big square ad. When you close the file box, it is very easy to hit the ad with the same click.
I've been both very-poor, and less-poor. I enjoyed not being very-poor. So, I'm guessing: looking for money = looking for enjoyment. Just a guess, I'll have to do more research in this, if anyone would like to help, please donate thousands of dollars to Tom-Not-So-Poor Research Program. P.S. Back on topic, do you think the block story wasn't meant to be actually true as in a documentary, but to drive further traffic to his site from us geeks?
