I just saw that the "site:" command has got the text "supplemental result" where it usually has the date when the site was cached. Does anybody know what this means? I tried it with quite a few websites, including digitalpoint.com and got the same text. I got no results for site:www.newzealandphotography.co.nz although it is in the database. I am sure 'cos it appears at #3 for allinanchor:new zealand photography. Anybody got any clues as to what's going on?
Re: Supplemental Results. I think that happens when a page is left dangling or is no longer available. There are a couple supplemental results for my site and that is the case with my pages. Not reassuring, but the pages should "magically" return to the site:command, since they are indexed.
Lately however, this has been somewhat of a bad sign... My feeling is that Google has tightened up the dupe content filter. What you are seeing can be the beginning of those pages being eliminated from G's index altogether. Give it a couple weeks, maybe a month, and if G is only showing the URL with no Title or Description for the supplemental results you're seeing right now, I would get ready to tweak some things because your site is getting dropped!
site:www.newzealandphotography.co.nz Results 1 - 10 of about 62 from www.newzealandphotography.co.nz EPA
The site won't necessarily be dropped as I have had a site with only supplemental results since about September last year and they were still there as of a couple of days ago. The pages no longer exist and I can't get the new ones indexed. My feeling is that it is related to the duplicate content, but not only that, as I have a site with 100% unique (unless some-one has copied it but with very little traffic, unlikely) and that has a few pages in the blog labelled as supplemental.
