Site benefiting from co-op but not using it?

While I was looking for sites to buy links from I found one site to be benefiting immensely from the co-op network (the vast majority of their links came there), however when i visited the site I found it wasn't using it at all. In fact, it had no out-going links at all.

How is this possible? Did the SEOers for that site set up some sort of 'link proxy', where they got links for the site in question but linked out from another? I'm confused by this as as far as I know the sites getting the links must be the ones linking out...

When you're adding coop links to a site, you gain some weight which you can "spend" it to different sites.

Hmmm...interesting post for me personally too. What sort of "weight" and what sort of "spend" are we talking about here?

We have a client who's been approached by another seo company who has sites that have recently benefitted in rankings for some very competitive terms in Google eg "loans" - within 8 days... so they claim. I don't know much about the co-op but I'm sure this is possible but isn't there a remote risk for their site even if they are not in the co-op themselves as such?

Hehe, I think I see this question being asked everytime I come to the co-op forum. :)

You can run co-op ads on one site and use the weight to have links pointing to another site. A site doesn't have to be running ads to use the weight.

    Hope that helps!

Here is a advice from my personal experience for newbies - :)

Never use co-op directly on your important site to which you want backlinks(i.e promotion). Put co-op on a forum or on a amazon store or on a database site with 1000's of pages indexed in google, than use the weight to promote your main site.

Hmm... any particular reason? Or just so you do not "trash" your important site with ads?

It's not an ad, really. its just about 35 unobtrusive text links on the page, normally the bottom :)
