Hi everybody, when I try to put a new page up, I get a 404 error.

My sites wordpress url myurl.com/wordpress - now takes me to my site saying not available

My site is only seen via this url, when I go to myurl.com - I get my hosting login page for Hostgator

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

    Thankyou

Are you searching for traffic or are you serious?

To get WordPress installed on your main domain, upload the script in the public_html directory instead of uploading the wordpress directory in the public_html map.

Like Aquarezz up there says, basically if you want WordPress to work when someone types in your actual domain (not a sub-folder) then you have to install into your public_HTML directory and if you are using the fantastico installer for hostgator, be sure to leave the location box empty. Alternatively, you can install WordPress in a sub directory and create a splash page for the site so that those who come to the site will hit that one first. But the big thing here is that would not want to install in a directory that was named WordPress, too long and not necessarily good for a niche or a site period. You should definitely install in a directory that has a name pertaining to your site itself.
