Site and Blog - same or different url's ?

Hi All,

I'm planning to add a blog to our site, it will be used for news and updated every few days. My question is:

The site itself is a PR5 and has pretty good SERP's, so am I better off adding it to the main domain, or having a completely different IP with a very similar URL and optimise the blog seperately? I will of course have plenty of links back and forth so it appears as one site to the user.

What are the benefits or drawbacks of doing it either way?

Personally i think you would be better off keeping it on your existing domain, i have a site that does well with a blog on the same domain and it seems to helps SERP's if the blog is on topic with the main site.

 

add it to the main domain.. it's much better.. imo..

 

By keeping it on the same domain you will boost your domain authority as well as visitor's trust and experience, etc.

 

i agree with all of them... you site will do benefit for that if you place it on the same domain....

 

Yeah, the main domain will give the blog extra weight - plus, a daily updated blog is like gold in Google
