Site alignment. Important?

    Hey -

When I first started designing sites back in the 90's, I almost always aligned the content to left of the screen.

In the last 6 or 7 years, I think I've only designed one site for a client that *wasn't* aligned in the center.

I'm not a fan of fluid layouts (unless it's really necessary - forum for instance).

So my question. How important do you guys consider the alignment of the site? Do you mind the content aligned to the left? Do you prefer it in the center? Does it matter?

    Cheers people!

Generally it depends on the site, if it's a fixed width for 800x600 screen resolution then centered always looks best.

however if it is a flowing laying and autosizes, it takes the entire screen are anyway so alignment isn't crucial here.

I always find centered looks better personally.

Personally, I think fliud (or liquid) alignments are the best thing to happen to web design since CSS started. To the left is ok except for people who have bigger resolutions than the size of your page. Then it looks retarded. That's just my opinion, but most of my content I edit and view on a 1440 x 900 (or whatvever) and it doewsnt look good. But after all that it doesnt really matter I guess as long as the content is readable and navagatable.
