Singular and Plural phrase match in same ad group?

    Hi

I have been adding a singular and plural keyword into many of my ad groups EG:-

    "Chess Board"
    "Chess Boards"

When ever I do this one variant always gets a very low QS, the other usually gets a fairly good one, 7 or higher.

Am I making a mistake by adding both keywords in like this?

If it is a new campaign you can kind of expect it.

Also, you should know that somebody who searches for the plural is usually more in the "search mode" than "buying mode". So, theoretically , you may have a lower CTR on it if you advert is designed to sell a product.

If your landing page is good and your keywords are relevant, it comes down mostly to your CTR. If one keywords gets less clicks/impressions than the other, it may end up with a lower QS -

    Thanks for this Ian...

I Guess we will have to monitor it and see what develops... I still really struggle to understand why on some keywords we get a 10/10 QS out of the gate... and others we get 3/10... when the relevancy, ads and landing pages are all in line with each other.

We have split our account right down into multiple campaigns and ad groups... trying to be as relevant as possible. So for example, for the keyword "ebony chess board" we have ad an group that is just for ebony boards, so the ad and landing page will be highly relevant.
