Single Pages Bad For SEO?

I'm just wondering if anybody knows whether having a single page as a website is bad for SEO? I've recently designed a site for somebody and after I had condensed all their information down I felt it all looked and read better on one page (it's certainly easier to browse :) ) but I'm wondering if this is the best approach for SEO purposes?

I would say you should have 3 to 5 pages minimum. Some people might not think so but i think you will get better results in search engines with more than one page.

You can also have all of the other pages link back to the home page. That should help SEO.

The more pages the better for sure. However thats not to say you can't get any results with a single page domain. I have a domain that I recently submitted to google and grabbed a couple backlinks and it's on the front page of google for it's first two weeks now. We'll see if it lasts. Ofcourse this is a small niche. But to answer your question, the more the better.

The more pages the better because the more pages the more possibilities you have of ranking for a page and more internal pages linking back to the homepage. If this is a local small business website then a few pages is fine. If it is a product site, selling items, then I would recommend creating more pages with articles and content. It has better potential to rank well in the search engines.

Multiple pages is always better for seo purposes. Optimize for 1 to 3 words on each page.

I suggest setting up multiple pages so you can expand on the keywords and content for each of them on a separate page. This will also help you build a small link structure within the site. A few extra pages means you can use more keywords to drive more traffic. If the client doesn't have a lot of content of there own, create some for those extra pages. In the long run it will make the SEO campaign better.

I agree that multiple pages are the best, but I myself have a one page website that is PR3 and ranks very well for my target keywords.

Yes, traffic! This is what all websites need. One page is not likely to let you target a broad enough range of keywords with which to draw traffic.

its not like good or bad.. The scope for SEO is less in single page. More the page more the keywords can be targetted.. Credibility is more for a huge site rather than to a single page site.. [Just an opinion]

Search engines rank each page separately.
Each page has a definitive comparison with other.

If you can build a better page, you will rank better no matter what you are going for. Keep your target as local / niche as possible to achieve success.

And now a days as hosting is getting cheaper, why not go for some forums/blogs to attach and have a support system also?

    Regards

single page website is not bad if you promote that page in a very well manner and you can use the Anchor tag so that when some one click on the page so it will be on the same page and that section will appear and it should have more content and if you are going to target less keywords then the single page website is good but if you wan to target more keywords then your website should have more pages.

One page of quality content is better then 5 pages of fluff. That said: adding good content, on more pages, is definitely a good idea.

None of us can really judge the result based on just what you are saying here. Could be the content was so bad, condensing it to one page is really a good idea. Could be: the content should not have been condensed but improved.

If the site have many pages(well defined pages make strength in site) then they are very valuable and effective for better positioning and stabality in SERP's on targeted keywords. SEO works only if u have big site and providing many services from one portal.

It is always a good idea to add more pages to the site. In any case, you will have sections or pages like Contact Us, About etc. You should distribute the content on new pages, and it will be easy to update and add more information to them in the future.

Not true. A big site that doesn't have focus is going to have trouble getting targeted links with appropriate link text (I should know).
Still, I agree that having only one page is going to make natural link-building hard.
