Single page ranking possible?

I have a "site" that consists on just one page promoting an affiliate program. I am well ranked at MSN, and managed to get to #4 at Yahoo before their recent update. However, getting any rank at google has just been impossible. And my keyword isn't even that competitive, main keyword shows 2,190,000 results and second keyword shows 2,240,000 results. I even pointed almost 60k weight at it for over a month and no change at all. Domain is almost one year old and not in the sandbox.

Is it possible to rank a single page at Google? Have any one of you ever done it?

I have a half dozen one page sites that rank well for keywords that aren't highly competitive. They are all PR3 or P4- and they have a small amount of links - no coop. Odd, but too many links and google doesn't seem to want to rank them.

I'll probably get flogged for saying this, but ...

I agree that Google can seem "hestitant" to rank sites that acquire a fast, large amount of links - this seems certainly true for newer sites, and sites lacking multiple pages of content (less than five).

Their algo's are "seeking" linking schemes and new, or very small and new especially, sites are scrutinized even more ... slow and steady wins the race.

However, why not add another page or two? Even if: Privacy, SiteMap, Contact ... it could help, especially if well linked internally.

    Good Luck and Happy Ranking!

I'm not sure where I got it from, or even where I put it. (How is that for a vague opening!)

But someone sent me a document that is supposed to be the rulebook for the google manual page review squad. And a one page site that exists to promote an affiliate link would fall foul of their rules if it offered nothing that a viewer couldn't get from the manufacturer of the product being promoted. So you might have just been "moderated" out of the results...
