Hi guys, I'm having trouble getting my site listed for a single keyword. My website: http://www.online-stopwatch.com Is coming up no.2 on google for the term: online stopwatch But is coming nowhere for "Stopwatch"??? Any ideas? Some of the blacklinks from other sites do use the single link: Stopwatch and the sinlge word is on my site. (though im sure google would pickup online"-"stopwatch as 2 seperate words anyway) What can i do to move up the search engine ranks for the single word term instead of the joined two words. I'm using Meta tags, H1, and all the other techniques i know. Many thanks.
It is not easy term to rank for especially if you have a new website, so be patient, keep building links for your website with the proper anchor text and wait. Good Luck
rcj662 and wisam74us are right. Try using "stopwatch" without "online", and build your backlinks with the proper anchor text. Also, from looking at your source code, I recommend the following: 1. Remove comment tag below <title> tag. 2. Move your StatCounter code below the content. 3. Remove meta keywords tag (very few search engines use it). 4. Optimize your meta desc tag to better reflect your keywords. Also, make sure your site validates as proper HTML 4.01 Transitional. W3.org found 8 errors in your markup.
maybe stopwatch is more competitive than online stopwatch. Add some content to your homepage and get quality relevant backlinks
Heh good luck, you have a heck load of competition to land that kinda keyword, you must have a big budget...say 600-800 for advertising and link backs.
IF your site is new try to target first the keywords that is not too competitive but not less competitive. It's really hard to have a good rankings with a single word keywords. Better target a keyword phrase first.
G sees "stopwatch" and "online stopwatch" differently. If you wanted stopwatch, you would have to optimize differently for it.
