Single Content blogs/sites vs. mixed content

I've been toying with this idea of mixed content blogs vs. single content blogs. I know there is a lot of competition for make money blogs and sites. Do you think it's easier to optimize a blog or site that has mixed content (say one that takes a personalized approach and has something to do with a hobby and making money)? Or would you stick with just make money content?

You could confuse the search engines. All though become popular enough and it might not matter. But don't expect to rank well for a popular term. Just my $0.02. Take care.

focus on a specific niche which is easier to maintain. if you write a blog on 10 different topics, then you need to write articles on 10 different topics on a regulra basis so your focus is devided. you can put all the focus on one niche which will get your site ranked sooner. its hard to get a site ranked several various topics and you have to do link building for all the terms

You would have much more success by focusing your entire blog on one specific topic. That ensures that all of your internal links are from relevant pages. It also makes it very obvious what your website is about. You would be able to get rankings easier if you only focus on one topic. You can either be an expert in one topic or just knowledgeable in several topics.

depends on the 2 niches. if you have "make money online" and a hobby ("gaming") then you can concetrate on both, and have a new subject to write about. "make money online with games"

Thanks for the opinions and feedback everyone. I guess if you can combine 2 topics and find a niche that works, it may be successful. I won't give up my single content blogs, but may try creating a new one with multiple topics, just to see how it goes.

You can try it out and see for youself. But google loves more, websites with related contents. Not diversified.

Isn't it possible to brand yourself though and keep users coming back with a mixed variety of interesting content? It seems like some bloggers and webmasters have been able to pull this off.

Blog having mixed content might be good for Adsense.

Money making with blog is very hugely competitive, not much chance for a new blog to succeed in that arena.

It might be interesting to have 2 blogs/sites. One single content and one mixed content and then see which one does better. I may end up trying that.

I find it much easier to mix things up if you pick up a generic domain name. That way I can test all sorts of sub niches and see what works before I go out and buy subniche websites.
