I setup new niche websites almost every day. Eventually I got tired of logging into CPanel, or messing with Apache Virtual Hosts and restarting Apache every time I wanted to setup a new website. I didn't actually need most of the gimmicks provided by the hosting control panels I was using, and I didn't really need to have separate log files for every website. I just wanted to create a new folder named after the new domain name via SFTP, copy some template files into that folder, point the domain name at my dedicated IP address, and be good to go. Well, I figured out how to to get just that with something called mod_vhost_alias. It's an Apache module that greatly simplifies the creation of new websites, saves me the expense of a CPanel license, reduces the load on my server, and makes my niche website network run more efficiently overall.
