Lately it seems that Google has me feeling very stupid. Title tags - they are: the links that appear in blue in Google's results the text at the top of the active browser window the text that appears within <title> and </title> If you search for 'cognos' Google returns the result 'cognos incorporated' which is not the title tag. Where does that come from?
Sometimes Google takes the title and the description from DMOZ ( http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Databases/OLAP/ ). In my opinion, this is not making Google results better, as most DMOZ pages are poorly maintained. Jean-Luc
Thanks so much. I was going nuts. I'm guessing the only way to change that sort of thing is with DMOZ...is there any way to influence if Google takes your own title tags or those from DMOZ? Is a title tag from DMOZ used for the serp displays only? Is it used it ranking (not as anchor text) as a replacement of your own title tags?
