hello friends, i have a question for you seo gurus let's say there is a site (it's a business site and not an article site) and its url is www.xyzcars.com it's ranked nr 1 in google for "xyz cars" and has 10 incoming links (used yahoo siteexplrorer). the links are from blogs and other web sites (no major sites). now the question is - if i would buy www.xyzcars.net and write 3...4 articles about xyz cars and start working on incoming links, do you think i would be able to beat xyzcars.com cause of the articles and the incoming links? thanks for your help!
Yes. Make sure the incoming links have the correct keyword as the anchor text though! besides, 10 links wont be hard to beat.
the age plays a big role in ranking, if the domain is pretty old than you will have a hard time beating it
Do a more thorough check on the backlinks. Yahoo shows you only very few of them. Try using SEO Spyglass....they have a free account option and show you many more backlinks. See how many links you find and check exactly how many of them have the anchor text "xyz cars" - the more links with this anchor text, the harder it will be to outrank him.
You should be able to. Having the keyword of interest in the URL will level the playing field a great deal.
Article marketing is a great way to rank your site and submitting articles via article directories and using programs like seolink will help drip feed your backlinks into the search engines. You can buy your articles or write them yourself.
Having the keyword in the url matters significantly, a .com is no different than a .net so you will be on the same ball field in terms of added weight from the domain having the keyword in it.
It really depends on competition and the competitor you are dealing with. What if your competitor is focusing on other on-page and off-page SEO techniques? What if your he is getting paid / free backlinks from high PR sites? And what if he is writing more quality content (off or on page) than you??? I would suggest you to do initial analysis on what your competitor is doing to promote his site? Content is absolutely the king when it comes to improved ranking but you can't win every race with this practice. There are other things as well to be focused. Hope this helps.
analyzing competitors that way is a good way to build a promotional plan and is a good start. while you register a site and build similar backlinks as your competitors, your competitors will not sit tight relaxing enjoying the ranking and traffic. they will keep building links to maintain their rankings. besides, just because Yahoo shows 10 (for example) backlinks doesn;t mean they have 10 backlinks. they might have lot more than that which are not showing yet. but if you start with matching your competitors site layout, content, backlinks, it would be a good start and the rest you can catch up on over time
