I've tried determining the answer using Google Webmaster Tools and all those goodies, but I get the feeling it's inaccurate, as the numbers shown are in the single digits for sites or pages linking in, and even then it's only reporting about 4 or 5 sites, so the numbers don't add up. Lately, I've seen a bit of a surge in guest visits - about 600 uniques a day - can anyone recommend a simple tool that I can use (and/or install) that would more easily help me track which sites these people are linking from? Thanks,
Heres something i wrote a while back. http://www.revitalizingpixels.com/resources/v3/analytics.swf it uses google analytics. best tool in my opinion. i talk about the nuggets to pull from it. Hope it helps!
aha! Great article - I'd definitely recommend it. I had heard of Google Analytics before, I just made the mistake thinking that Google Webmaster Central was the same thing. Thanks, Keven
no problem glad i could help. i plan on updating it and going into a more indepth version within the next few weeks.
Google Analytics has announced its beta version and it has major changes done so you should try it.......it shows much more details then before!
I'm all over it and have now been using it a full week. It is indeed extremely useful, particularly to glean information on which sites people are finding you through, as well as organic search results.
If you can use, use freely available awstats. Its fine and better than analytics as its implemented within your account/server.
