Simple question about Domain

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by GAdsense, Jan 19, 2008.

I just bought a domain and I was wondering whether to get hosting account setup at the moment is better or from when I'll be free that is after two weeks.

I am asking this because I want to know will search engines index the page or something once I'll setup hosting or something.

This just popped in to my mind and DP is always the first place to ask :)

Thanks Dnk, Which hosting will you prefer? Window or Linux?

I am planning to offer my services through that domain - Though to get the domain ranked (page rank) nicely, I'll be blogging from it too. How you think I should integrate both my needs? - Wordpress Blog? - I thought to have a static wordpress page for services and blogging on the other page.

The option between Windows and Linux would depends on your requirements, ie what language is your script using ? If it is ASP or ASP.NET then a Windows is better. If it is PHP then Linux is the way to go. If you are just doing pure HTML then it really makes no difference and the only option is your personal preference.

If you are not getting a dedicated server then Linux or Windows makes no difference if your scripts supports both platform. More scripts and hosting companies are linux based so you get better prices if you select that platform.

    Wordpress works better with Linux.

Thanks guys - I am glad to know my perceptions were almost correct.

Now how big the hosting should be? - I mean I've previously bought a basic package which had only 1 database capacity but enough space. What are the key things I should look for?

Go with one of the cheapest hosting plans at this stage, you should be able to get it for about $4/month. If you need more later, you can always upgrade, but it probably wouldn't be a while before you need to upgrade.

If you are looking at hosting, look at the ones which offers Cpanel + Fantastico if you do not want to install Wordpress by hand. Fantastico allows close to the one-click installation of Wordpress. It also helps you update too.

When looking for a hosting plan, the smallest plan should work and it be great if the web host allows you to upgrade plans as and when needed.
