I'm looking for a very simple, basic, easy to use and install CMS application. I run an SEO firm and we do some small web design projects on the side, and I'm just looking for a CMS application that can integrate easily with your basic 5-10 page static "brochure" style website. Any recommendations? I typically like to use MS Windows hosting and ASP pages just for simple footer includes, etc. if that matters. Basically I just want something where I could put in a little code specifying the CONTENT area of each page that would then have a simple web-based WYSIWYG editor to allow clients to modify the text. I'm looking for either free or low cost ($50, $100, maybe a few bucks more if needed). Thanks!
Stop looking for ASP. Those CMS systems tend to be expensive. If you want something cheap and easy, take Open Source. My pick would be Mambo as its imo the most client easy system. www.mamboserver.com Its PHP and MySQL. Works thus best on Linux. The standard editors arent too WYSIWYG as uploading images or adding HTML can be a pain, but there are good editors you can download. It works with templates, is easy to install.. and for other features, check their site. If you go for cheap go for open source: Search for Mambo, Typo3, MMBase or WebGui
Here is a pretty simple to implements, and easier to use page editor system for Interactive Tools. The 'Page Manager' is only $150, and they have a full 'Article Manager" that has a more complete CMS. I've found it to be perfect for releasing 'most' of a site to a clients control.
I checked out a few before deciding to make our own, but you might review CMSSTAR | Content Management made easy, NexMillenium, 2eNetWorX/dev Site, InnovaStudio.com - InnovaStudio WebCMS, eQuercus Pro, or iCMS Content Management System
this PHP Content Management System has a great implementation and is truly search friendly http://www.phpcms.de/index.en.html
I've used this http://www.opensourcecms.com/ to find and implement http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu/ I'd give it an 8 out of 10. And, it's free!
I'll add my vote for Mambo but it depends on what you want to do. No it doesn't, just use Mambo... but pcdoc is right, use OpensourceCMS to help you decide. Sarah
i just deleted mambo because i found it too compllicated for my needs. there is a lite version called limbo you might like to try
If you are just looking for some basic text type publishing, page management and maybe a blog, I would check out using WordPress (blog platform). The new version has the ability to create pages outside of the blog framework and it is super easy to setup and manage. Plus you can change the themes (look) of the site with many free ones that you simply download and select. It is pretty nice if you are looking for no frills/easy to use.
I agree. Today, I setup a new WP installation for a client, couldn't have taken more than 30 minutes from download, edit config file, upload, etc.
If you have Cpanel it take less than a min... WordPress 1.5 is incredible - An excellent choice for a CMS.
Heres a simple one to try out. I personally use it. its bare bones but works well: cmsmadesimple .org Regards Hal
if you are looking for a small cms with 10 pages , you can use wordpress as your cms. it's simple and easy cms for small web sites
I see that a lot of people love wordpress however, I feel as if original cms programs tend to do a lot better for me (my own opinion and experience). I create my own php and mysql cms and they are owning! A few months ago I wrote this script for my websites actually taking the idea from 123icons.com I wanted to create something similar to the design but was stuck in the same boat. Check it out on iconscripts.com and let me know what you think... also iconscripts.com/admin <- some little punk hacked me when I left anonymous ftp up I think that is why you see that hardcore little notice at the bottom! CHEERS!
I have been using wordpress for years now, and I think, it is Flexible enough *with all the themes and mods available to make absolutely ANY kind of site.
LOL I'm kicking myself in the arse right now. I'm USING WORD PRESS! for my new site I'm creating! The domain is UberAdds.com <- don't know what I want to talk about, please gimmie an idea!!! I was originally going to create a myspace add friends site however the idea kinda turned around when I read over 10 different news articles on people being sued for spam!!!
