Similar Pages on Google?

Firstly, does anyone know why Google can't find "similar pages" for a website that has a large number of related pages in the Google database? The theme in question is shoe shine kits, shoe polish kits, shoe polish etc. and there are a large number of related sites out there, but Google shows no related or similar pages for a site that's been well optimized and online for over a year and a half. Any ideas as to why this would be? Secondly, if Google doesn't know what's related to your website, shows no similar pages, do you think that would affect rankings for your site? Thanks for any help or thoughts anyone can offer.

Are you asking why Google has not singled out a few, well optimized pages from your site and listed them in top SERP's?

What i want to tell you, is that the related option... Is mainly based on what sites link to you, and what sites you link to.

I have an IT website, but link to a rubber manufacturer. That will come up.

    I have a sex-toy manufacturer link-ing to a satellite=-provider. Those would come related.

    And so on.

So try and keep up your link-exchange, or link building, only with highly related websites.

No, I'm asking if anyone knows how Google compiles its "similar pages" results. I don't think its by content, as there are a lot of theme related pages in google's database that relate to my site, but my site shows no similar results so I'm thinking "similar pages" is not compiled or arrived at by the content on a site. So I'm wondering if anyone knows how similar pages are arrived at by Google? And secondly I'm wondering if not having "similar pages" showing for your website has a direct effect on your rankings. Thanks.

Is it possible that the domain was once SEO related - Got some links from these sites? You can use Yahoo's linkdomain: command to find sites which are indexed with Yahoo and link to yours. Better option is to see who links to you using Google's webmaster tools.

Similar pages are the pages that are related to your website niche, if Google consider it relevant to your niche it will display that else not.
