Sorry, I couldn't find a clear answer on this. Does the silo structure entail simply the directory structure, (ie., example.com/animals/cats/cat-grooming is better that example.com/cat-grooming) or does the actual link placement on the landing page matter? For the above example, would you want only general category links like "cats" and "dogs" on the main page - would you be confuse the googlebot for having a "cat-grooming" link there? If you are penalized, what does that mean for sites with hover menus, which naturally have a link to every menu element on every page that displays the menu? Take for example http://heliguy.com/. The folder structure is well siloed, (/spares/stuff, /flight-sims/stuff), but every page has a link to every sub-menu element to enable the hover effect. Can anyone clarify this?
