Silly directory question

I have had a little directory for ages - a niche one, I use it mostly for link exchanges and sites I have found that are interesting and want to keep a link to but I get a site or two added most days from random passers-by. Nothing special, but it keeps growing away nicely.

The thing is - it is at mydomain.com/links, which means I can't submit it to any directories/sites that have lists of directories as they all want dedicated directory sites not just subsections of sites.

Is it worth my while to attack it with some mod_rewrite rules and move it to directory.mydomain.com?

And if I do that am I going to get flooded with spam links that have nothing to do with my directory's niche?

I would say that mydomain.com/directory or directory.mydomain.com would be better than mydomain.com/links
