    Sikhism is a religion. Sikh is a follower of said religion. Punjab is a province in both India and Pakistan, Punjabis are the inhabitants of that province, speaking the language Punjabi and following Punjabi culture.
    There are Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Christian, all kinds of Punjabis. Sikhs in India are mostly found in Punjab, that is why they are proud of their Punjabi culture.

    I didn't know that too before I came to Canada (where there are lots of Sikhs) and not because I was an ignorant. Don't assume that every culture (or religion) is known everywhere. Are you aware of every cult or ethnic group in Africa or South America for example?

    A bit different, considering there are like over 25 million Sikhs in the world. I thought this was basic knowledge? Not for North Americans i guess.

    Not for South Americans either. Many of them use "Hindu" and "Indian" as synonyms. Turbant-bearing people belong to tales and movies down there. I'm sure there are many "25 million" kinds of people about which you have no idea.

    What is the easiest way to tell the difference between a Muslim and a Sikh by sight?

    I think this is not a good question.. anyways, it's not always apparent but here is the general picture..

    Sikh almost has turban on all the time whereas for a Muslim rarely.. Sikhs beards are most of the time longer than of Muslims (not all) but most. Sikhs carry a 'dagger'/(sword sometimes?) with them;

    I am sorry you thought the question was bad, but in reality most in the US would not know the difference and a Sikh may be treated differently than expected.

    I agree with what you're saying. Sikhs were even targeted because some people thought they (Sikhs) were Muslims. Btw, I am Muslim not Sikh, but Sikhs are great people I can tell you!

    I grew up in Harlem NY. I thought white people were mythical beings that existed only on Dallas/Knots Landing TV shows until I was in my late teens.

    Muslims trim their mustaches, Sikhs don't.but then you need to be pretty close to tell who's who.

    God is a person who is fooling us with so many religions...

    Actually there is only one God!!! He is the real god of Hindus ,Christians.Muslims,Sikhs..!!!

    But those religious leaders do n't understand it...

    I like Sikhism as it is where you find a large no of brave people... they are bravest on earth as far as I am concerned..

    I have got one more question.

    Sikh is a religion itself or its a cast or type of Hindus?

    If one says he is Sikh, does it mean he is Hindu as well?

    Sikhism is completely a different religion, it believes in only one god and is based on equality of all human beings.......
