Signatures on forums

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by rufman, Apr 4, 2009.

You know I have really found this forum to be helpful. Just a quick question about using signatures in forums.

    1. How many of your keywords should you use in your sig?

    2. Is it smart to have these keywords all link to the same url?

    3. Does having text along with your anchor text in a sig better?

Also, please review my sig and let me know if I am using it properly.

    Thanks!

Well all your keywords rank according to word tracker. As far as sig goes, your only limitations are what the admin has set. If you have lots of room for a long tailed key word, use it.

Don't add too many key words. 2-3 Keywords are enough even in a long forum signature. You have repeat same keywords again and again. That's not needed in SEO and link building.

So if my kewords are fortune cookies, custom fortune cookies, and personalized fortune cookies what should my sig look like?

Do I not want to mention all three of these. If the words "fortune cookies" are in all three of these how should it be laid out then?

Placing your "Fortune Cookie" keyword rich signature on an irrelevant forum about "Internet marketing" won't do you a bit of good from an SEO stand point

Relevancy is a major key factor in acquiring backlink juice

    Are you kidding me?

Maybe you should test some of your theories before posting them. I've delved into blackhat SEO and posted thousands of identical looking links on unrelated sites. The competition for the keyword was moderate and after doing it I got ranked number 5.

Google is not filtering as much as you think it is.

Of all the SEO tools the Signature Link seems to raise the most controversy. While some live and die by posting on forums and sigs, others look at it as a waste of time.

This is what I believe. I first started using this forum for the sole purpose of using my sigature. While I have seen a bit of pagerank from this, I have found it has been most beneficial in building relationships and really learning alot from those who are more experienced.

Do any ot you fill the same?

My feeling is that signature links don't have as much value as they used to years ago. It is like having lots of links from the same domain. Google credits a couple of them and ignores the rest.

Having signature links on a forum with relevant content to your site will give added value because you will have greater chance of getting actual visitors to your site from those links.

Regarding your links, I would link to different pages of your site rather than pointing 4 links to your homepage.

    Well 2 points to agree

1.) Yes links help definitely to get the juice to agree with sloth456
2.) It helps more if placed on relevant content to agree with Gazelle

Please note word " more " it means any links placed on good PR webpage will help but to get more benefit its good to match relevant content , thats all

    Thanks,

I have quite a few sites that have benefitted greatly from signature links. Sometimes you will see great results while other times you will be disappointed. Relevancy definitely helps but is not totally necessary as you can still increase your PR and SE positions by building irrelevant links. Any links are a help, but building relevant, high PR links will boost you greatly. My advice is to use signature links and gain as many as possible but focus on other link building methods also. If google sees all your links coming from forums you will not do as well as someone having a good spread and variety.

my two thoughts... i think all links count, obviously some more than others. I personally try to keep all my links on appropriate sites that are relevent to mine. It's the courtious thing to do IMO

Signatures used with 2-3 key words is good enough, and there are many sites in the market that have been doing really well from signature links, always go for high PR links.
