all of u are having signatures at the bottom of your posts and will google count one signature as one link or one link per page no matter how many signatures u have ? or how many replies u have on that page ?

    1000 links on a PR6 forum is not like 1000 PR6 links.
Google will count some of them, but not all of them.
These links are good for faster indexing and targeted traffic to your site.

Google works on the number of pages linking to a site, therefore each new topic replied to is a new link

Some people are spamming these forums with hundreds or thousands of these sig links. I've even seen where people here pay money to rent someone else's sig links. Why don't they create useful sites that attract links naturally instead of spamming forums?

Especially since the better majority of posts/threads have a PR0.

I have 700 + posts here, but google is only counting about 4 of them as backlinks according to the LINK: command. Nearly all of them are listed in webmaster tools though.

Consider a sig link only as good as 1 link back. You might get more credit, but don't bet the farm on it. And when it is gone, it is gone.

I had quite a few of the backlinks indexed on Google, but the number fell in the recent PR update. Now only 5 links from DP forums are counted by Google for my SEO Blog

Forget about the Google link command - it is useless. Yahoo does a good job of showing you backlinks.

Links that do not show in the Google link command still count. Google webmaster tools has a more complete link data.

Renting signature links is an utter waste, i cringe when i see people shell out $xxx for a month on a signature link. People don't think ahead when the link is removed and your site suddenly has minus x,xxx backlinks seriously negating any benefits it "may" have provided in the first place.

Most of people who buy sig links are doing it for marketing purposes.

I could think of better ways to spend $xxx for 1 or 2 clicks a day over a month period.

Sorry to say, they do virtually nothing for your ranking/indexing/pr.
