Sidebar not appearing in pages using wordpress

    I am new to using wordpress but learning slowly. On my index page I get the sidebar with the links and so forth but when I click on a post the sidebar does not appear. I have read through some of the help pages on the wordpress website but still can't get it to work. Anyone have any ideas?
