This is an interesting topic. Sidewiki works with the latest version of the Google toolbar (you need to set it to "enhanced"); it appears as a left-hand sidebar in the browser. Basically, users can comment on any website and can say whatever they like. Whether it is a good idea to give them this ability, I am not so sure. I can't see immediately how massive abuse of the sidewiki can be prevented. Want to denigrate your competitors? Want to plug your own website? Sidewiki makes it easy! I don't see any uses for SEO (do others disagree?). In fact, I see one main use for Sdewiki, and that is spam, spam, spam. Not sure where Google hopes to go with this product, but it seems useless as implemented.

One thing I would like to add to the above: definitely claim your site's sidewiki at the owner. This will at least make your own comments to appear at the top, above all the spam and denigrations that are bound to follow sooner or later.

I think it is useful because it tells you about the opinion given by the people about that particular page....

Humm ... just think what types of comments an unethical competitor can leave. This is like leaving graphiti on a brick and mortor store. The site owner has now say how his site is tagged(no pun)

I think SearchWiki is more useful than Sidewiki for SEO

I'm awfully glad to see this thread. I've been wondering the same thing. Does anyone know if you can delete comments made by others in a sidewiki? I can see how this could get out of hand quickly.
