I currently have 2 accounts with DSVR, 2 300meg shared servers. Each one costs me around $550 each per year (excluding exess bandwidth charges). I was nearlly sick when I found out that dreamhost is offering 20Gig packages for less than what I'm currently paying. Based on current growth my customers would have outgrown the servers in less than 4 months. I also have a number of large sites which I want to start but can't because it would jepordise my customers. Basically like most UK webmasters, I desperatly need to get out of this ripoff market and switch to american hosting. I have a varied customer base, from mortgage consultants to mid sized e-commerce sites. The majority of them heavily rely on there email, DSVR recently had an email outage of 1 hour and my phone didn't stop ringing. I manage around 100 domains. How would I go about migrating my customers over to a new host? How do I deal with the issue of email. A lot of my customers have there pop 3's configured to point to my servers IP adress. Is there some type of forwarding that can be setup so that my customers don't have to reconfigure there clients. Having to reconfigure my customers POP3's would be a logistical nightmare which would involve me driving to my customers sites and physically configuring all of there PC's to the new host IP's. Is dreamhost a good company to go for or are there others, I heard a rumour that they run PHP as CGI scripts. My customers scripts are varied, from custom built sites to premade scripts such as os-commerce and phpbb.
